NATALIA AND GREG | GOLDNEY HALL, CLIFTON, BRISTOL | LIVE WEDDING PAINTER

Goldney Hall Live Wedding Painting

The uninvited guest at this wedding? The wind!

It was a gorgeous day to get married. The sun was out, champagne was flowing, and at Goldney Hall there is no shortage of beautiful spots to paint. I was spoilt for choice.

There was a bit of a breeze, but nothing out of the ordinary…for now.

I was to paint the first kiss after the Bride and Groom say ‘I do.’ I started by painting the gorgeous garden where Natalia and Gregor were to be married. The florist, the amazing Clifton Flowers, was told to set up flowers in glass jars on pillars either side of where the bride and groom. Which she did. Guest’s arrived and were seated, the music started, and in walked Natalia, looking absolutely stunning in an Alison Jayne gown that caught the light and sparkled as she moved.

It was a beautiful ceremony. The couple were being married by the groom’s father which was such a lovely personal touch. We were listening to his speech then…

CRASH

A freak gust of wind sent the flower vase crashing to the ground. Flowers everywhere.

But, this is a wedding and these things happen. Everyone laughed, the groomsmen did a quick sweep and life went on. The couple exchanged vows. I was doing my Ninja thing, creeping behind the videographer at the back and caught the couple's first kiss. Then off I toddled to paint.

But I had an idea…

The joy about a live wedding painting is you see what is important to the couple throughout the day. You see the moments that mean something, that make someone laugh or cry that have special meaning. I knew how important those flowers were, I also saw how Natalia and Gregor wanted to light a candle, as it was important to Natalia to have this Brazilian custom included, but they couldn’t because of the wind sputtering out the flames.

So I decided to paint them in.

Natalia and Gregor got their flower display and their candles after all. At the end of the night the bride and groom loved their live wedding painting and the guests had been blown away watching the piece come together over the day.  I even got a “belíssimo” from Natalia’s Aunt. Result.

Reacting to and working with all the crazy stuff that happens on a wedding day is what makes a live wedding painting so much more dynamic, organic and interactive than most other art can ever hope to be. A live wedding painting is an expression not just of the couple’s love, but also of the uniqueness of their wedding day.

A picture really does say a thousand words.

Just don’t mention the wind…

Thank you so much for having paint your special day Natalia and Greg!
